The theme of “FIND YOUR CORE” included in the event at Nagoya PARCO. This is due to the social situation in which modern times "we find each core (values and aesthetics) in a vast amount of information, reinterpret self-expression, and create a new identity."

Meilin of the solo project ZOMBIE-CHANG, who also appeared at the live event, is truly a representative artist. It absorbs music of different genres, and transmits novel sound sources as your emotions go from there. Her artwork, such as track making, lyrics, and music videos, is basically her style. We are celebrating our 10th anniversary and interviewing what we think now immediately after the show.

―How was the show at the Nagoya PARCO store EVENT SPACE?

Nagoya has performed live several times, and this time it was a live performance in a pedestrian paradise, so I felt like I was in the beginning. It was like a street musician in a good sense.

―I think there are audiences and first-time visitors, so can you first ask about Zombie Changing?

Yes, Zombie Chung is a solo project name, and the name that my parents have given since I was born into this world is Meirin. What I often say is the image of Takanori Nishikawa of T.M.Revolution. Even though it is a solo project, I feel like I'm doing the artwork I want to do now with the cooperation of various people. I also write lyrics, track makeup, mix, goods design, and submissions.

―When I heard the latest album "GOOD PLACE", I was impressed that it was an electronic album with darkness and poison. How was it made?

I've lost a very important person in the last few years. So, this time, I would like to start with the theme of "life and death." I think this is something that everyone experiences when they are alive, such as when people around them and their relatives die. I wanted to make the sadness and other things emotionally focused. So I actually started making it, but I have changed quite a bit with the album I've released so far. Now I think I'm in a stage where I can accept all of them. I'm all myself, including the first album and the sound source of the band season, so I want to incorporate them all from track to singing. This is an album that was made conscious of it.

―At the release party, you were talking about the 10th anniversary.

I wasn’t particularly proclaiming this. "Oh, that's the 10th anniversary," I said with Bosso at MC. Then the people around me said, “Oh? Is that right? "I'll tell you a little more." Personally, I felt like that. I'm asked if I looked back on the 10th anniversary, but I'm not good at trying too hard for people.……But I think you've worked hard enough.

―Have you ever changed or changed 10 years ago?

Honestly, my core part does not change much, but I wonder if there are some parts that have changed in the same way as people. I think my mind has become stable as I grow up. For example, if someone told me something unpleasant, I sometimes cared about it when I was young, but as an adult, I was able to catch it as such, "Oh, there are people who say that." Do you say that? Change the interpretation of the words and do not turn it to yourself. I think I've been able to avoid it.

―So, this time, we will talk about culture and fashion regarding the event of Nagoya PARCO. Do you have anything you like for a long time or have you been hooked on now?

I watch movies a little bit, but I've seen the American human drama movie "JUNO" many times since ancient times. The soundtrack is also very good, and there are times when I listen to it again and Jolo. Also, fashion has recently become obsessed with stars. Star trousers, star embroidery, etc. I love handicrafts and do well knitting, and I make my own knit hats and parka star embroidery that I was wearing at live today. I also knit skirts and make my own bags.……

―It's great to make clothes yourself.

With clothes and accessories, I don't sell the right size for myself right now. I think it's faster to make it. But this is the same feeling of music, and I don't think it's the music that someone made with "the perfect sound that fills me now." Emotions are the feelings of others. Of course, there are some parts that empathize, but it is not my own feeling. That's why I make music myself, and I make clothes and accessories that suit my mood and size with knitting. Because I want to use something that fits perfectly with me. I think that’s what I want the most.

―I see. As with music and MV, do you make something with the image of the final form first when you make something?

No, it's not you. Basically, there are many people who pile up one by one with sensitivity, and as a result, "This kind of thing was made." In this album, we made efforts to create the theme of "life and death", but since it is a theme that puts emotions, it feels like we made each song with sensitivity. Basically, it may be close to the food level. At 2 tablespoon……I don't measure it properly, but I'm speculative.

―At this Nagoya PARCO event, the work of Shan-Lou, who created the MV for the new song “J’ai le cafard” with Meilin, was exhibited. How did you make this one?

Shan-Lou was an old friend who felt that he had a similar personality, and he was talking like "Let's make something together someday." So, if I was making this album, Shan-Lou's work came out and said, "It's cute, lovely." So I contacted you to do it together and realized it. The theme song is cockroaches, but I leave it to Shan-Lou for the character itself. The sensitivity is similar, so there is a trust that if you say one word, you will definitely make something you like. That's why it's a very enjoyable work.

―Now, I would like to ask you about the theme of the event "Find Your Core". In the past, culture and fashion scenes were divided into several genres, but now there is a lot of information, and each individual absorbs the information he likes and creates new aesthetics and values (cores) based on it.

Well, in the past, the source of culture may have been magazines, but now you can see everything in Japan and overseas on SNS, and you can easily see fashion shows on video. So, I think everyone is influenced by various cultures, regardless of the scene. So now everyone seems to have a different personality. But I think that's funny.

―How about your own experience, Mr. Malin?

When I was a puberty student, I listened to punks and hardcores, and I liked something like a rebellious spirit. But I didn't hear it as a genre in particular, but I think it was just that kind of music I met at that time. Even if it's not punk or any music, if someone expresses himself and makes it, I think there is a rebellious spirit somewhere, even though the shape is different. You make it yourself not getting what you already have.……Do you say that it is not passive, or is it itself a power to repulse? Now, it is quite possible that what I met during my student days was a different sound, and then it may have become a different vector from what I am now.

―I see. Maylin's music can be categorized with New Wave, right?

I'm just making a sound of what I want to do now, so it's difficult here and I think, "Is that so?" For example, if you say "I'm New Wave" yourself, you're going to get angry at New Wave people (laughs). When the electro says, "You're not an electro," he says, "Is it an electro?" (laughs). Genre is like a business card……You can't say something for yourself, right?

―Thank you very much. Finally, please give a message to those who like culture and art who come to Nagoya PARCO.

As I do, I think that online is increasing when I buy something now, but I don't stay at home all the time, but when I walk or go outside, I have new encounters. I think that some people came without knowing this event, but I met new expressions such as exhibitions and music and thought "It's wonderful." I think that colors and sensibilities that you can't experience with SNS algorithms alone will come in. However, if you say "Go out a lot!", I think some people say "I don't want to leave!" (laughs). Sometimes it can be fun to go outside, so if you play at Nagoya PARCO, I think there may be new encounters.
